LOS ANGELES — Grace Helbig may be known for her quirky, comedic videos, but long before her Internet fame the YouTube star struggled with an eating disorder.

In high school, Helbig used to count calories and obsessively exercise, struggling with exercise bulimia. Her saving grace? The “therapy of comedy.”

This is the candid anecdote that kicks off Helbig’s second book, Grace & Style: The Art of Pretending You Have It, which hit bookshelves Tuesday

“I got myself into a cycle of hiding and bingeing and purging,” Helbig wrote in the candid introduction to her book. “I was tired and repressed and sad all the time. I was losing weight and losing hair (surprise! That happens when your body loses too much weight! Fun discovery).” Read more…

LOS ANGELES — Everything is not fine with The Fine Brothers.

In response to growing backlash over the last week, the YouTube duo said Monday night that they have discontinued their “React World program.”

The the duo came under fire last week after announcing they were going to license their highly popular “react” videos to creators worldwide. Many YouTube creators argued the brand is not The Fine Brothers’ to license, calling it an attempt to claim profits over every “reaction” video out there

“We’re here to apologize,” Benny and Rafi Fine said in a Medium post on Monday. “We realize we built a system that could easily be used for wrong. We are fixing that. The reality that trademarks like these could be used to theoretically give companies (including ours) the power to police and control online video is a valid concern, and though we can assert our intentions are pure, there’s no way to prove them.” Read more…

The Navy just launched its first carrier strike group powered partly by biofuel, a mix made from beef fat. This is part of its “Great Green Fleet” initiative, which aims to draw power from alternative energy and lessen military reliance on foreign oil. Turning to alternative energy will give the military options so it is no longer at the mercy of fluctuating oil prices and oil-producing nations that may not have U.S. interests in mind, Navy Secretary Ray Mabus told the AP.
