Autodesk & Mattel Release New $299 3D Printer for Families

Autodesk & Mattel Release New 9 3D Printer for Families

By Michael Molitch-Hou

In April of last year, Autodesk first announced its partnership with legendary toy manufacturer Mattel, saying that they would be powering the toy company’s design apps.  We are now seeing the biggest result of that partnership as Mattel reboots its classic ThingMaker product.  While in the 60s and 90s the ThingMaker was a desktop molding machine, the 21st century version is a desktop 3D printer.
Introduced in the 1960s and then resurrected in the 1990’s, the ThingMaker was a device that allowed kids to fabricate squishy toys, like bugs and flowers, by pouring liquid resin into metal molds, which were then baked within the device’s scalding hot oven. …

Now, 3Doodler has announced a 3D printing pen for a younger audience, the 3Doodler Start, a more affordable and colorful version of their original 3D printing pen.…

When searching for a flight, hotel, room, or car rental for an upcoming vacation, quite a few individuals use price comparison websites such as Expedia or Priceline in hopes of discovering the most lucrative deal across the travel market. Printabowl Brings High-End Pipe Design to a Whole New Level with 3D Printing

Printabowl Brings High-End Pipe Design to a Whole New Level with 3D Printing

By Tyler Koslow

While we’re all busy scrambling to find out what 3D printing will be applied to next, two brothers in the state of Washington are taking the technology along for a ride upon the high road, so to speak. After the state legalized the recreational use of cannabis back in November 2012, University of Washington art students Al and Saul Jacobs decided to create Printabowl. Their goal was to redesign the traditional water pipe to represent a ‘functional sculpture’, and they decided to use ceramic-based 3D printing in order to accomplish it.…

Making the World a Better Place at the 3Dörtgen 3D Print Shop in Istanbul

Making the World a Better Place at the 3Dörtgen 3D Print Shop in Istanbul

By Davide Sher

Update: I just heard about what happened and what is still happening in Istanbul as I’m writing. It feels even more terrible as I was visiting the same exact locations that were hit by the attacks just a couple of days ago. I am not a geopolitical journalist and I am not fully comfortable writing about issues that are much greater than my own sphere of professional interests. I feel terrible for the present and future innocent victims of these cowardly acts of terrorism that have no goal other than creating fear and thus turning people against each other. …

Davide Sher’s Top 2015 3D Printing Applications

I think that, until the end of 2014, it was still theoretically possible to discuss the top 5 3D printing innovations of the year. Today, I don’t find that possible any longer. There are just way too many things happening in the 3D printing industry and the crazy part is that we are still, really, at the very beginning. Only a couple of years have passed since the mass public discovered that 3D printing exists and, yet, this technology is now at the forefront in just about every industrial, professional, and artisan sector of manufacturing.…
