Church of fools: Inside a service led by clowns
LONDON — Bibbledy Bob is running amok. The red-haired buffoon has been caught walking his hot dog in a graveyard and PC Konk is after him with his truncheon.
Up the road, meanwhile, a man in a yellow waistcoat is juggling while balancing on a ball to the strains of “My Way” through a barrel organ. Someone’s parading a rubber duck on a string. The air is thick with hoots and squeaks from a kazoo.

A menagerie of fools gathered, dozens and dozens of them, for the 70th annual Clowns International service in honour of Joseph Grimaldi, the godfather of clowning in England who died in 1837. Read more…
