How to 3D Print in Full Color: DIY Style

By Tyler Koslow

From Taiwan to Ireland, 3D printing enthusiasts around the world are preparing for the next big thing in additive manufacturing: full color 3D printing. 3D printing companies such as 3D Systems previously dominated the full color 3D printing race with the ColorJet Printing, but their hefty price tag of around $40k is discouraging for your average Maker and 3D printing enthusiasts. One user from Instructables.com named Jason Powell has just come up with a DIY path to bring full-color 3D printing to his redesigned Rostock Max, the popular delta 3D printer with a mere $1,000 price tag, making for a much more affordable color printer than any other company on the market.…

Prof. Pearce’s “Open-Source Lab” Unleashes the Power of 3D Printed Lab Equipment

Prof. Pearce’s “Open-Source Lab” Unleashes the Power of 3D Printed Lab Equipment

By Davide Sher

At 3DPI, we have had the opportunity to interview Professor Joshua Pearce from Michigan Tech a few times. That’s because he represents some of concepts that many 3D printer adopters appreciate and like to promote, in particular the use of low-cost 3D printing and other open source technologies directed toward sustainability, innovation, and discovery.
Many times, I have found myself quoting Prof. Pearce’s study on the savings derived from a single open source, 3D printed mechanical pump to exemplify the benefits of 3D printing in general.…

Making the World a Better Place at the 3Dörtgen 3D Print Shop in Istanbul

Making the World a Better Place at the 3Dörtgen 3D Print Shop in Istanbul

By Davide Sher

Update: I just heard about what happened and what is still happening in Istanbul as I’m writing. It feels even more terrible as I was visiting the same exact locations that were hit by the attacks just a couple of days ago. I am not a geopolitical journalist and I am not fully comfortable writing about issues that are much greater than my own sphere of professional interests. I feel terrible for the present and future innocent victims of these cowardly acts of terrorism that have no goal other than creating fear and thus turning people against each other. …

RepRapPro to Reproduce 3D Printers No More

RepRapPro to Reproduce 3D Printers No More

By Michael Molitch-Hou

As the 3D printing hype bubble deflates, it has taken its toll on companies large and small alike.  While 3D Systems and Stratasys may be experiencing the effects in large, legal ways, the impact on a smaller firm like RepRap Professional Ltd. may be more ironic, given the role that its founder has had in launching the latest wave of 3D printing.  Today, as RepRapPro announces the closure of its shop, it’s important to remember that Adrian Bowyer, the founder of both RepRapPro and the global RepRap movement, is majorly responsible for the low-cost 3D printing revolution occurring worldwide.…
