Software-Born Kikai Labs Launches New M11 3D Printer with Filament Detection

By Davide Sher

Unlike other companies that entered the desktop 3D printer arena from some areas of the manufacturing business, Buenos Aires-based Kikai Labs began as a software company. Marcelo Ruiz Camauer, the company’s founder, ran a successful software company with his brother when he set out to apply this knowledge base to the manufacturing revolution. Now that revolution is culminating with the release of the new M11 “full metal jacket” 3D printer.

Kikai Labs was not initially on my list of companies to visit, but when Marcelo contacted me ,I looked it up and found out that it was located about 300 meters from my apartment in Palermo, in the stylish and fun “SOHO” area which – incidentally – is very similar to the SOHOs in London and New York.…

Printabowl Brings High-End Pipe Design to a Whole New Level with 3D Printing

By Tyler Koslow

While we’re all busy scrambling to find out what 3D printing will be applied to next, two brothers in the state of Washington are taking the technology along for a ride upon the high road, so to speak. Specializing in 3D printed DIY projects for open source tech company Adafruit, Noe Ruiz is certainly fond of the legendary electronic music duo Daft Punk. Back in 2014, Ruiz put together a DIY project that allowed customers to 3D print their own full-sized, LED-equipped Daft Punk helmet. The perfect project for an experienced Maker with which to ring in the New Year, Ruiz and the Adafruit team have revamped the previously released helmet project to include Bluetooth-controlled LED lights, giving those who are fans of both Daft Punk and 3D printing one more reason to ‘come on and celebrate’.…
