Indians make the world’s largest diaspora population: United Nations

Indians account for the world’s largest diaspora population, with 16 million people living outside the country. It is followed by Mexico at 12 million, according to a new United Nations (UN) survey.

Conducted by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs, the survey revealed that there were 244 million international migrants in 2015, an increase of 41% as compared to 2000. It also showed that the number of international migrants had grown faster than the world’s population.

However, two-thirds of all international migrants were concentrated in just 20 countries, with the largest being in the United States, which had one-fifth of the world’s total migrants. The US is followed by Germany, Russia, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates. Ted Cruz is out with a splashy new ad — literally — featuring people in business wear wading across a river as he accuses the media of ignoring the economic toll of illegal immigration.

“When the mainstream media covers immigration it doesn’t often see it as an economic issue,” the Texas GOP senator intones in a voice-over as people in suits and ties run through the desert and clamber across a river. “The politics of it would be very, very different if a bunch of lawyers or bankers were crossing the Rio Grande or if a bunch of people with journalism degrees were coming over and driving down the wages in the press.” Read more…
