WASHINGTON — Bernie got grumpy and Hillary got detailed in a policy-focused PBS debate that played to her strengths and exposed some of his big weaknesses.

Here’s what you missed if you didn’t catch Thursday’s Democratic debate.

Everyone loves Obama – now

Clinton and Sanders rushed to prove the other one hasn’t been so nice to the president, in an effort to bearhug Obama. The two candidates are clearly aware they’re going to need to do well with African American voters, who make up big a sizable portion of the Democratic electorate in the next states on the calendar. WASHINGTON — Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders played tug-of-war over President Obama’s heart at Thursday’s Democratic debate, with each arguing the other has been more disrespectful to the president.

Clinton lit into Sanders for his Thursday comments that President Obama hasn’t been able to work with Congress well enough, accusing him of Republican-like attacks.

“I don’t think he gets the credit he deserves,” she said. “The kind of criticism that we’ve heard from Senator Sanders about our president I expect from Republicans, I do not expect from someone running for the Democratic nomination to succeed President Obama.” Read more…

WASHINGTON — Bernie may have come off as a bit of a bro during Thursday’s debate with Hillary Clinton.

Sanders seemed to pooh-pooh the historic nature of Clinton’s campaign to be the first female U.S. president, arguing if he got to the White House it would be just as unique.

“Well, you know, I think from a historical point of view, somebody with my background, somebody with my views, somebody who has spent his entire life taking on the big money interests — I think a Sanders victory will be of some historical accomplishment as well,” he said when asked about whether he was worried he might be blocking history. DES MOINES, Iowa — Bernie Sanders, voice straining as he spoke in a hotel ballroom near the Des Moines airport on Monday night, was triumphant

“It looks like we are in a virtual tie,” Sanders said to a roaring crowd of jubilant supporters. “While the results are still not complete, it looks like we’ll have about half the Iowa delegates.”

Just a little while earlier, Hillary Clinton had claimed victory in the Iowa caucuses, rankling Bernie Sanders supporters, especially since the results were continuing to roll in. It is unclear when a final tally will be available

Clinton said she was “breathing a big sigh of relief” after the Iowa contest. The state famously stung her in 2008, when she finished third in the Iowa caucuses. Read more…

While Hillary Clinton said she was breathing a “sigh of relief” after just barely winning the Iowa caucuses on Monday night, Bernie Sanders wasn’t the only one sharing the spotlight.

A sticker-clad college student was seen making faces behind Hillary Clinton as she spoke after the caucuses in Iowa Monday night, who quickly became known as #Stickerboy, or #Stickerkid, to those watching at home on Twitter.

We caught up with him backstage.

The culprit, we learned, is Drake University student Peter Clinkscales. He’s “a simple man” who likes “pretty, dark-haired women and breakfast food,” according to his Twitter profile. And he’s still undecided. Read more…

WASHINGTON — Hillary Clinton on Monday fired back at a young voter who questioned her honesty and why she was losing to Bernie Sanders with young voters, telling him she’s been pushing for progress since before he was born.

“I’ve been around a long time. People have thrown all kinds of things at me,” she fired back during a town hall in Des Moines, Iowa, the final time she’ll be at the same event as Sanders before next Monday’s crucial caucuses.

“But if you’re new to politics, if it’s the first time you’re really paying attention, you go ‘Oh my gosh, look at all of this.’ And you have to say to yourself, ‘Why are they throwing all of that?’ Well, I’ll tell you why. Because I’ve been on the front lines of progress since I was on your age.” Read more…

WASHINGTON — Bernie Sanders handed Hillary Clinton’s team a line made for attack ads Monday night, admitting his plan to expand Medicare to everyone would raise middle-class taxes.

“We will raise taxes. Yes we will,” he said at a town hall in Des Moines, Iowa — the final time he’ll appear at the same event as Clinton before next Monday’s Iowa caucuses. The two are neck-and-neck in recent polling in the key, early voting state.

Sanders argued it was “demagogic” to portray the plan as a tax increase on the middle class, however, because they’d be saving more on their healthcare plan than they’d be paying for taxes. Read more…

WASHINGTON — An insurgent liberal hero is once again rising in Iowa, drawing huge crowds of young supporters and making Hillary Clinton’s team see ghosts of her 2008 caucus collapse.

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has clawed his way into a virtual tie with Clinton in Iowa polls, and the former secretary of state’s backers are increasingly nervous that she could lose there once again.

“I still have 2008 PTSD, and I’m feeling a lot of it right now,” said one Iowa Clinton loyalist who has been involved in both campaigns. “These polls have closed up. His fervent support is not something she’s matching… Things seem to be a little off the rails.” Read more…
