A seemingly playful Twitter rant from Kanye West on Sunday that vaguely suggested that he wanted $1 billion from Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg turned out to be the truth

Hours after posting the original message proposing the billion-dollar investment, Kanye followed up with a new, more earnest plea

“Mark Zuckerberg I know it’s your birthday but can you please call me by tomorrow,” the multiple tweet message begins. “You love hip-hop, you love my art… I am your favorite artist but you watch me barely breathe and still play my album in your house.” Read more…

Kanye West does a lot of bragging — about his music, his fashion line and even his wife

But the artist took an oddly humble turn earlier this week by asking for a massive dose of financial help from none other than Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg

The plea of monetary aid came, of course, via Twitter, where Kanye wrote, “Mark Zuckerberg invest 1 billion dollars into Kanye West ideas … after realizing he is the greatest living artist and greatest artist of all time.”

Was Kanye making a prediction or a request? It’s hard to know for sure, but it’s not difficult to interpret it as a veiled request for funding considering it came just a day after Kanye claimed to have “53 million dollars in personal debt.” Read more…

A 60-year-old American woman named Deborah Miller flew halfway across the world to attend her “Facebook son’s” wedding in India. The two had developed a close bond after 28-year-old Krishna Mohan Tripathi befriended Miller four years ago on Facebook.

Tripathi, whose mother had died when he was a teenager, chanced upon Miller’s profile while browsing Facebook. The two kept in touch over the next four years, despite the distance between them — while Tripathi is from a village near the Indian town of Gorakhpur, Miller is a resident of California. When he decided to get married on Jan. 29, he extended an invitation to Miller, who surprised him by flying all the way to India. Read more…

As the votes continue trickling in from Monday night’s Iowa caucus, Twitter came out on top in terms of social media predictions

No prediction is perfect but Twitter got it closer than most by projecting Ted Cruz at the top of the GOP heap, ahead of Donald Trump and Marco Rubio. While the percentages were off, the results still managed to pick the winner even as Trump was ahead in many polls

As for the Democratic side, Twitter fell short on Bernie Sanders’ gains as, at 1:30 a.m. CST, that race still remains too close to call even though Twitter predicted an easy win for Clinton. Read more…

Australia’s Queensland Police Service has ridden hoverboards coupled with an abiding hatred for Canadian rockers Nickelback into social media success

The service’s Facebook page has been liked more than 725,000 times, which is more than any other police service in Australia, and more than the NYPD

Often on point, it has used its following to address the scourge that is the “Be Like Bill” meme, and they’re as excited about the return of The X-Files as the rest of us. Of course, the majority of posts concern public safety information, or appeals for tip-offs regarding local crime or missing persons. Read more…

A new offer from Papa John’s Pizza franchises in Russia is making some people sick, but it’s not the pies themselves.

As part of a new promotion, customers can save money on pizza by entering the name of the long-deceased former Soviet dictator Josef Stalin.

News of the promo code was first published on Facebook by Ilya Klishin, editor-in-chief at the independent TV Rain channel in Moscow

“Papa John’s Pizza has introduced a Josef Stalin promotion code. Enter the name of the dictator and get a Hawaiian or pepperoni pizza,” wrote Klishin, who said his great-grandfather was one of tens of millions of people repressed by the brutal dictator. Read more…

A random act of kindness (and a little patience) goes a long way on the Internet.

Ishmael Gilbert, a Target employee in Glendale, Indiana, inspired many people with his kindness when a customer took a picture of him patiently helping an elderly lady pay for her groceries with coins.

“[I] was frustrated with this woman and the inconvenience she had placed on me…I watched him help her count her change, ever so tenderly taking it from her shaking hands. I listened to him repeatedly saying “yes, mam” to her…Never once did this employee huff, gruff or roll his eyes. He was nothing but patient and kind,” Sarah Owen Bilger wrote on Facebook. Read more…
