MEXICO CITY — Drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman was eager to set up a face-to-face meeting with Mexican actress Kate del Castillo, and had apparently never heard of Sean Penn, according to transcripts of over a month of text messages exchanged between the two.

The transcripts published Wednesday by the newspaper Milenio — and confirmed as authentic by a federal official — showed that Guzman was less interested in making a movie about his life than he was in flirting with the actress. Guzman’s lawyer contacted in 2014 to talk about producing a biopic of the drug lord, according to Milenio

Federal officials also said they had detected recent efforts to register “El Chapo Guzman” as a commercial trademark, possibly by the drug lord’s lawyers. Read more…

Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto announced on Friday that infamous drug kingpin “El Chapo” has been caught by police

Joaquín Guzmán Loera had been on the run for six months after escaping from a maximum security prison using an elaborate tunnel system.

Pena Nieto tweeted a message of victory to the country, “Mission accomplished: We have him. I want to inform Mexicans JJoaquín Guzmán Loera has been arrested.”

Misión cumplida: lo tenemos. Quiero informar a los mexicanos que Joaquín Guzmán Loera ha sido detenido.
