Imagine a world without buffering, a world where downloading HD movies takes less than one second, a world where your favorite web pages load before you even take your finger off the enter button. Don’t fret, we’re getting closer.

Researchers at the Optical Network Group at University College London published a study saying they have achieved a data transmission rate of 1.125 terabits per second, which is an absolutely insane amount of data. It also happens break the record for highest rate of data received by a single receiver

Senior research associate Robert Maher told Mashable in an email that this transmission rate could send/receive the entire Game of Thrones TV series in less than a second. Read more…

At first glance — and first feel — Gemini 2 sneakers could easily be mistaken for any other athletic shoe on the market. But embedded within its soles are tiny sensors that track where you’re going, the distance you’ve traveled and calories burned. LAS VEGAS — The makers of the Gogoro’s smart scooter, a smartphone-connected electric scooter that debuted on the roads of Taipei last year, have unveiled how they plan to choose the next cities to bring the scooter.

The company, which unveiled its scooter at last year’s International CES, introduced a new initiative that will take the feedback of prospective customers into account when making plans for its expansion. Gogoro also unveiled an update for those who already have their scooters: home charging stations and the ability to lock and unlock them from your iPhone, Android smartphone or Apple Watch. Misfit is back with a sleek new activity tracker.

The company announced the Misfit Ray Fitness and Sleep Monitor at CES on Tuesday. Its features aren’t that different than the company’s other trackers, but the wearable sets itself apart because the minimal design is stylish without trying too hard.

The cylindrical aluminum body is less than half an inch in diameter and about 1.5 inches long. Like Misfit’s other wearables, it’s modular, so it can be worn as a bracelet or necklace. It comes in rose gold, of course, as well as carbon black, and its shape doesn’t make it too obtrusive.
