Nintendo Classic ‘Duck Hunt’ Rebooted in VR

Nintendo Classic ‘Duck Hunt’ Rebooted in VR

By Tyler Koslow

One of the most iconic and popular video games of all time, Nintendo’s 1984 NES title Duck Hunt, might be a bit outdated, but who is to say that the classics can’t be reborn with a little help from emerging 3D technology? After attending this year’s Global Game Jam event, one 21-year-old developer from New Jersey named Joesph Delgado became inspired to take Duck Hunt, now over 30-years-old by the way, and reformat it for Virtual Reality.

I’m sure there were a lot of elements of both VR and Duck Hunt for Delgado to consider, implementing the classic Nintendo gun controller, tracking hand motions and ducks, and just making the VR experience as enjoyable as possible, for instance.…

3Doodler Releases 3D Printing Pen Just For Kids

By Tyler Koslow

Since successfully funding the first model of their 3D printing pen on Kickstarter back in 2013, 3Doodler has been trying to put the power of 3D printing technology directly into our hands. 3Doodler has been aiming at artists and Makers alike with their unique, handheld plastic extruding devices, encouraging those who may not have the means for a 3D printer to use their mind as CAD software and their hand as the printer. Now, 3Doodler has announced a 3D printing pen for a younger audience, the 3Doodler Start, a more affordable and colorful version of their original 3D printing pen.…

3D Printing Ceramics with the Sound of Some Solid Vibes

3D Printing Ceramics with the Sound of Some Solid Vibes

By Tyler Koslow

We’ve seen how 3D printing technology has been used to artistically represent the physical world, but only few, like Reify and artist Gilles Azzaro, have explored the ways that sound can also be manifested by 3D printing, too. But what if you were able to own your favorite song or album in the form of ceramic pottery? Well, two artists based in the Netherlands, spatial sound designer Ricky van Broekhoven and designer Olivier van Herpt, have teamed up to make this intriguing idea of evoking sound in 3D a reality.…

Software-Born Kikai Labs Launches New M11 3D Printer with Filament Detection

Software-Born Kikai Labs Launches New M11 3D Printer with Filament Detection

By Davide Sher

Unlike other companies that entered the desktop 3D printer arena from some areas of the manufacturing business, Buenos Aires-based Kikai Labs began as a software company. Marcelo Ruiz Camauer, the company’s founder, ran a successful software company with his brother when he set out to apply this knowledge base to the manufacturing revolution. Now that revolution is culminating with the release of the new M11 “full metal jacket” 3D printer.

Kikai Labs was not initially on my list of companies to visit, but when Marcelo contacted me ,I looked it up and found out that it was located about 300 meters from my apartment in Palermo, in the stylish and fun “SOHO” area which – incidentally – is very similar to the SOHOs in London and New York.…

Over the past year, we’ve seen a number of drone videos of the new UFO-style headquarters of Apple being built. But none have been as revealing as a new video posted on Monday that shows the advanced stages of the facility’s construction

Captured by Bay Area drone videographer Duncan Sinfield, the clip offers our first look at the interiors of the spaceship-like headquarters. We also get to see a few component parts of Apple’s underground auditorium, which has circular roof and, in its current state, really does look like something from another planet

The massive solar panel array is also shown, one that will serve as a backup power solution for the campus. Read more…

A 3D Printed Pigeonstein to Haunt Your Beautiful Dreams

By Michael Molitch-Hou

While UK architect William Stanley has recently launched a 3D printed jewelry shop, with which to execute his 3D printable creativity, it may be his 3D printed Skele-structure sculpture that stands heads above some of the other 3D printed work in the industry.

The Skele-structure is a design that artfully combines 3D printed replicas of pigeon bones with structural elements to create a modern take on prehistoric history. Stanley describes the design by saying, “Skele-structure is a merging of the natural and the artificial.…

Circuits from Space! ESA to Develop 3D Printing Breadboard Machine for the ISS

By Tyler Koslow

3D printing has certainly impacted a lot of industries down here on Earth, but numerous projects show that the true potential of this maturing tech may be best suited for outer space. As of late, the European Space Agency has certainly recognized 3D printing as an important tool in the space race, having just awarded €500k to a team that developed a new cold spraying technology that enables metal to be 3D printed at room temperatures (helping to eliminate possible heat-based distortion and damage to metal components).…

For those following the rising use of 3D printing for prosthetic replacements, you may have noticed that humans aren’t the only ones benefiting from these constant breakthroughs in 3D printed assistive devices. There is a vast variety of both domesticated and wild animals who have overcome their injuries and deformities thanks to 3D printed prosthetics. Last year, two Brazilian toucans had their broken beaks replaced with a 3D printed replica within the same week as one another, allowing the colorful birds to eat, sing, and live a normal life once more.…
