WASHINGTON — Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders played tug-of-war over President Obama’s heart at Thursday’s Democratic debate, with each arguing the other has been more disrespectful to the president.

Clinton lit into Sanders for his Thursday comments that President Obama hasn’t been able to work with Congress well enough, accusing him of Republican-like attacks.

“I don’t think he gets the credit he deserves,” she said. “The kind of criticism that we’ve heard from Senator Sanders about our president I expect from Republicans, I do not expect from someone running for the Democratic nomination to succeed President Obama.” Read more…

President Barack Obama has signed an emergency declaration for Flint, Michigan, that clears the way for federal aid to the city undergoing a drinking water crisis.

The White House issued a release Saturday calling for the Federal Emergency Management Agency to coordinate all disaster relief efforts to “alleviate the hardship and suffering” on residents.

Following the announcement, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder released a statement on his website:

“I appreciate the President approving my federal emergency request and supporting Flint during this critical situation,” said Snyder. “I have pledged to use all state resources possible to help heal Flint, and these additional resources will greatly assist in efforts underway to ensure every resident has access to clean water resources.” Read more…

WASHINGTON — An insurgent liberal hero is once again rising in Iowa, drawing huge crowds of young supporters and making Hillary Clinton’s team see ghosts of her 2008 caucus collapse.

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has clawed his way into a virtual tie with Clinton in Iowa polls, and the former secretary of state’s backers are increasingly nervous that she could lose there once again.

“I still have 2008 PTSD, and I’m feeling a lot of it right now,” said one Iowa Clinton loyalist who has been involved in both campaigns. “These polls have closed up. His fervent support is not something she’s matching… Things seem to be a little off the rails.” Read more…

WASHINGTON — Vice President Joe Biden on Tuesday offered a blunt assessment of Donald Trump’s campaign for the Republican presidential nomination, telling NBC News that the businessman could well win the White House in 2016.

“Yes, I think it’s possible,” Biden told NBC’s Today, adding that he hopes that Trump would get “a lot more serious about the issues” if he wins.

“I hope if that were to occur — I hope it doesn’t because I have fundamentally different views than he does — I hope that he gets a lot more serious about the issues, a lot more serious about gaining knowledge about how this nation functions in foreign policy and domestic policy,” Biden said. “But look, that’s a long way off.” Read more…
