A group of skaters attempting to enjoy the fresh ice turned their outing into an animal rescue.

While out on an ice skating tour of Båven in Sweden, a group spotted four wild boars on the frozen water, unable to navigate the slippery ice.

According to the Swedish nature website Natursidan, the group believes that the boars were trapped on a small island, and when they ran out of food, they attempted an escape to the mainland but were unsuccessful

Fortunately, the group of skaters flexed their curling skills, and were able to gently push all four of the boars to the lake’s shore.

Although this may look like a bit of harsh way to rescue these animals, the group noted that some of the boars were a bit aggressive when approached. So, their sticks allowed them to push the boars at a safe distance. Read more…

The duck belonged to a man named Rex, who said he came across the unlikely trespasser on his property when checking on the nest and its eggs, which had not yet hatched

Even once the ducklings emerged, the bandicoot stayed put. “I went to check on the eggs and a little bandicoot had made its way underneath,” he told the outlet. “The mother duck hasn’t taken offence to the little fella.” Read more…

Animals have a tendency to get lost in Australia, although only a few end up in hard-to-reach places.

That’s what happened to this dear little platypus, found down a stormwater drain near Caboolture station in Queensland by security guard Anna-Maria on Wednesday morning

“I was at work, about to finish night shift, and was told that a security guard had rescued a platypus from a stormwater drain found near the Caboolture station,” John Summers, the shift supervisor said in a statement emailed to Mashable Australia. Police are trained for scary situations, but this snake climbing vertical might be a little out of the ordinary, even in Australia.

Western Australia’s Wyndham Police posted a video on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon local time, making us grateful we don’t have these kind of hurdles when trying to get home at the end of a working day. The snake was captured slithering on a metal gate making its vertical ascent, through barbed wire like it was no big deal.

Injured Costa Rican Toucan Saved with 3D Printed Prothetic Beak

By Tyler Koslow

For those following the rising use of 3D printing for prosthetic replacements, you may have noticed that humans aren’t the only ones benefiting from these constant breakthroughs in 3D printed assistive devices. There is a vast variety of both domesticated and wild animals who have overcome their injuries and deformities thanks to 3D printed prosthetics. Last year, two Brazilian toucans had their broken beaks replaced with a 3D printed replica within the same week as one another, allowing the colorful birds to eat, sing, and live a normal life once more.…

Shell Shock! 3D Printed Replica Shells to Help Save the Threatened Desert Tortoise

Shell Shock! 3D Printed Replica Shells to Help Save the Threatened Desert Tortoise

By Tyler Koslow

For just about over 250 million years now, the tortoise has managed to (slowly, but surely) survive various mass extinction events and predators of all types, becoming one of the most ancient and resilient animals to still roam the earth today. Unfortunately for this species, particularly the Desert Tortoise (generally located all across the Mojave Desert), endangerment is approaching quickly as their population is ravaged by the growing number of predatory ravens, which have been accumulating due to human landfill and litter.…
