Bioprinting & More Possible with Hyrel 3D’s New Line of Syringe Print Heads

Bioprinting & More Possible with Hyrel 3D’s New Line of Syringe Print Heads

By Michael Molitch-Hou

In addition to university labs, Hyrel 3D has been one of the original pioneers of paste extrusion for 3D printing.  Long before the Discov3ry extruder from Structur3D, Hyrel was 3D printing with Play-Doh, clay, and Sugru. Now, the Georgia-based company has announced an entirely new line of extruders that launches Hyrel from desktop engineering into the world of desktop bioengineering.

Working with “research teams on five continents”, Hyrel has developed the Syringe Delivery System (SDS) line of extruders, designed to allow users to 3D print using easily filled, swapped, and stored syringes. …

3D Insumos Takes Buenos Aires Makerspaces Online with Nube3D

3D Insumos Takes Buenos Aires Makerspaces Online with Nube3D

By Davide Sher

The fourth appointment on my Argentinian visit was with David Cimino, founder and CEO at 3D Insumos. I had learned just the day before that “Insumos” in Spanish means “supplies”, so I figured out that David’s company, founded in 2012, mostly manufactures and sells filaments and parts for 3D printers. That is true, but it is only the tip of the iceberg.

The company also manufacturers Chimak brand 3D printers (which come in many sizes), distributes M3D 3D printers, and it recently launched Nube3D.com, a cloud platform for distributed manufacturing.…

KinomaJS Streamlines AstroPrint for Marvell’s 3D Printing Processors

KinomaJS Streamlines AstroPrint for Marvell’s 3D Printing Processors

By Michael Molitch-Hou

Beginning as a forked version of OctoPrint, AstroPrint has since established itself as a solution for printer users and manufacturers to give 3D printer users untethered, remote control over their machines. Now, just in time for CES, they have found themselves a big partner in electronics company Marvell. In less than two months time, AstroPrint worked with the open source Kinoma division of Marvell Semiconductor to create a custom solution for Marvell’s 3D printer hardware.

In a recent blog post, Kinoma details how AstroPrint was able to quickly implement the open source KinomaJS software platform to develop a new version of their onboard and mobile print management solution. …

MatterHackers Introduces New MatterControl for Wireless 3D Printing at CES 2016

MatterHackers Introduces New MatterControl for Wireless 3D Printing at CES 2016

By Michael Molitch-Hou

At CES 2016, MatterHackers is showcasing their latest 3D printer controller, the MatterControl T10.  An upgrade from the previous MatterControl Touch (T7), the T10 brings several improvements for 3D printer owners still relying on tethered 3D printers, making it the ideal accessory for RepRap owners and owners of numerous new machines that have yet to install WiFi or onboard controls.

MatterControl T10 improves upon its predecessor with a larger, higher resolution screen, growing from 7” to 10.6” with 1366 x 720 resolution. …
