We are swimming pool maintenance companies in Dubai and we will tell you how to maintain your pool. How to properly clean the water? First, the pool water passes through a mechanical filter. The simplest version of filtration is a container filled with uniform quartz sand with a granule diameter of 0.4-0.8 mm. Such a scheme is used in the event that the water circulation in the basin is small.
For larger pools, more sophisticated filtering equipment is used, including a variety of sandy fractions, where fine sand should be located below and a larger one at the top.To monitor the location of sand in such filters, special viewing windows are provided.
This is necessary because there are complex filters that generally have a four-layer backfill, with three layers of sand of different granularity accompanied by a layer of hydro anthracite.
In the second stage, chemical reagents are added to the water. The main purpose of chemical reagents is to regulate the hardness of water and its disinfection.
Thus, treatment of pool water with chlorine, bromine, active oxygen or ultraviolet is possible. For greater reliability, a water ozonation system can also be installed.
But today the most popular disinfection system is chlorine. This is due to the fact that it is not only the cheapest but also the most effective.
Which disinfection system is better?
The most effective and widespread way of water disinfection is chlorination. It is a simple, reliable system using inexpensive chemicals. But, unfortunately, chlorine has a sharp, unpleasant odour, and besides, it is a pretty strong allergen.
Each disinfection system has its pros and cons. So the system of disinfection based on ultraviolet is suitable only for swimming pools with a low flow rate. In addition, quartz lamps do not have a very long service life, about 3,000 hours of operating time, and a plaque settles on its glass, which must be washed off occasionally with a weak solution of oxalic acid.
On the other hand, treatment of the pool water with ultraviolet does not cause allergic reactions. Ozone is more effective. The only thing that requires replacement with such a system is air filters that supply air.
Ozone not only kills microorganisms but also destroys molecules associated with chlorine. This helps to get rid of the characteristic smell of chlorine (with combined cleaning). But a large concentration of ozone causes side effects, and therefore it is desirable to install sensors in the swimming pool, which automatically cuts off the system when the concentration in the air increases. (The normative content of ozone is 0.1 mg per litre).
Chemicals based on bromine and silver do a good job, but their ions settle on the filtering sand, their use is possible only with an expensive high-load filter with a minimum thickness of one and a half meters.
Why does the pool water smell of chlorine and how to avoid this smell?
The smell of chlorine is a kind of signal that the water is very polluted and it is time to clean the bowl of the pool. Other possible causes of the chlorine smell of pool water may be an improperly exposed level of water hardness or stopping the supply of additional chemicals into the water.
This is due to the fact that free chlorine dissolves in the pool water, and its main task is the destruction of microorganisms and algae.
At a certain parameter of water hardness of the basin (this parameter is 7.2 – 7.6), it completely dissolves in water and is not released from it. A smell appears when it interacts with microorganisms or other pollution, during which the very structure of chlorine changes, and it becomes more volatile.
How best to add reagents to the pool water, manually or with the help of automation?
It is recommended to add chemical reagents to the pool water manually only for small pools. For pools with volumes from 12 cubic meters and above it is recommended to install automatic dosing stations.
The plus of these stations is that they measure water parameters (pH and concentration of disinfectant) in real time and if necessary include chemical dosing pumps, because the water parameters change constantly – for example, during bathing (human pH -5.5).
Thanks to automatic stations it becomes no longer important, one person, two, three or ten bathed in the pool: the water will be in perfect condition all the time.
How often should I filter the pool water?
The water in the pool is in a constant cycle, – through the fence devices – the skimmers or through the overflow grilles, it gets on the mechanical filters, then, already in the warmed state and with the added reagents again returns to the bowl.
With active use of the pool, it is advisable to make such a cycle constant, but for a small family cottage, it is enough to work the filter equipment of the pool for 6 hours.
As a rule, in the pool equipment, there is a control unit for the filtration and heating system. It allows you to set the mode of work at a convenient time, day or night.
